I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Catherine and Alex. This was to be a uniquely small gathering including only immediate family; six guests in total. I found the intimacy of this event similar to my own wedding and I had a great appreciation for the personal nature of this union. I joined the bride at her childhood home in Alexandria where she was getting ready amidst friends and family. It was here that I learned of the couple’s intention to exchange ‘cereal box rings’; apparently they had not found the right rings and so they decided on a couple of fantastic ‘place-holders’. We soon headed to The Inn at Little Washington where the ceremony was to take place. This was the first time I had been to this location and I was completely blown way; it out did my every expectation. The town was quaint, beautiful and seemingly untouched by time.  The place was truly surreal and a wonderful site for a wedding. We reconvened at the Gamekeepers cottage and I began by taking photographs of the rich details. There was a photographic opportunity everywhere I looked. We had a wonderful time placing Catherine’s dress against the rich backdrops; the dress fit both her personality and this location seamlessly. The ceremony itself began with a musical introduction played by the bride’s Father and Brother. Catherine and Alex then exchanged their vows and their fantastic ‘cereal box’ rings; a little bat and a glow-in-the-dark ghost. We spent the next hour taking beautiful portraits and exploring the photographic potential of this incredible place. I always find a certain gratification when a couple seems to match the wedding that they have chosen for themselves. It was a pleasure shooting this wonderful, relaxed and carefree couple; I wish them all the best.
