Sarah and Omar at Meadowlark in Vienna, VA

post written on 24 Sep 09 in Engagement shoots

I spent a fun afternoon with Sarah and Omar at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.  Meadowlark is a fantastic spot for both weddings and engagement shoots.  It’s wonderful rolling hills are landscaped to perfection.  Sarah and Omar are crazy in love!   One of my goals in an engagement shoot is to capture the passion between the couple.  Easy to do with these two.

Amanda and Amir

post written on 18 Aug 09 in Engagement shoots

Amanda and Amir wanted to incorporate some Washington, DC landmarks in with their engagement shoot.  This is often a real challenge for me as I do not want to create a “tourist” picture, but rather show the love between the couple.  The easy part about shooting these two is that it is easily evident that they are in love.  They adore each other!  There is no other way to put it.

We started at Union Station and then worked our way over to The CapitolAmandaAmir_001AmandaAmir_008AmandaAmir_020AmandaAmir_026.  I think we got some great stuff!!

Beth and Jon

I had planned on shooting Beth and Jon at Dumbarton OaksBethJon_015BethJon_018BethJon_024BethJon_037, but they do not allow photography.  Who knew?!  So we ended up at a park near by and had a great time.

Jane and Chong

post written on 18 Aug 09 in Engagement shoots

Jane and Chong were a little nervous about their engagement shoot.  (Actually, most of my clients are nervous!)  One of the most important aspects of my job is making people comfortable while they are being shot.  By the end of the shoot both Jane and Chong were “naturals”, and told me how much fun they had!JaneChong_006JaneChong_026JaneChong_035JaneChong_044

Kara and Art

post written on 18 Aug 09 in Engagement shoots

Kara and Art are both teachers living in South Africa.  They blew me away with stories of what their life is like.  I had no idea about how bad the crime is in that country.  Art told me that it is legal to run a red light at night if you feel you are in danger!   They detailed the barb wire fence and laser security system at their home.  Wow!  We spent some time in Alexandria, which is my new favorite town.  It is so beautiful and classic.  Cobble stone streets and amazing old architecture.KaraArt_013

Nathania and Joel

post written on 18 Aug 09 in Engagement shoots

Nathania and Joel met overseas many years ago when both of their families were living out of the country.  (  They still have a bit of an unusual relationship as he is working on the oil fields in Texas and she is here in the DC area.   We spent some time strolling around the Georgetown area and got some fun and romantic shots.

I started with Jessica and Joe at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  We went down to the waters edge overlooking the Jefferson Memorial.  It was a beautiful day and these two could not be easier to work with.  They are both were laid back and relaxed, and we got some great images.

I meet Rachel and Andrew at the Iwo Jima/ Netherlands Carillon Park last Saturday for their engagement shoot.  Wow is that Iwo Jima statue HUGE!  It is a fitting tribute to all of the sacrifices that the Marines have made for this country.  Right near by is a structure donated by the Netherlands as a thank you for helping them in World War Two.  Every half hour bells ring out from the tower and there is an amazing flower garden built at the base.  Andrew and Rachel were great and made my job easy.  I will be shooting their wedding at the beginning of May and I am looking forward to it!

Wish Contest winners!

post written on 21 Apr 09 in Engagement shoots

A couple of months ago my friend Laura Auer, wedding coordinator goddess, and owner of Wish Special Events, ran a contest on her blog.  The winner got an engagement session with me.  Marcie and Steve were the lucky couple, and we spent a few hours around Georgetown a few days ago.  I love shooting in this area and Marcie and Steve were up for anything.   We had a blast and got some great images.  It pays to read the Wish blog!
